Measure your garden

You're probably at the stage where you're weighing up the options of having artificial grass, but you have no idea where to start and how much grass to order so start by measuring your garden.

Step 1 - Measuring the width of your lawn

• DOgrass turf comes in either 2 or 4-metre rolls and lengths of up to 30m.
• The most important thing to remember when calculating the space of your artificial grass requirements is to measure across the widest part of your lawn.
• The aim is to minimise wastage as much as possible.
• You will need to allow for the widest width to ensure the whole area will be covered.
• If the area is wider than 4 metres, don’t worry, you can always join two or more pieces together.

Step 2 - Measuring the length of your lawn

• Measure the longest length of your lawn to ensure the whole area will be covered.
• When it comes to measuring, make sure you calculate the width multiplied by the length which will give you the total m2 of your lawn space.
• We recommend that you add another 100mm onto your measurements, in order to allow for human error and give you some wriggle room, should you make a mistake or two!

Step 3 - Considering Joins

When measuring your install area and planning your artificial grass order, take into consideration that our rolls come in 2m or 4m widths. 

• What was the widest width of your garden? 

• Will you need more than one roll of artificial grass?

The best way to measure your garden would be to first draw an accurate plan on squared graph paper. Simply measure the widest and longest lengths of the area you are looking to lay your artificial turf. Take into account any extra areas you may need to cover if your garden is not a simple square or rectangular shape.

If you've worked out these measurements accurately, simply multiply the width by the length and you will know how many m2 of artificial grass you will need to cover your area.
