Although artificial grass and natural grass both look beautiful in their own way, there are very few differences between the two, however this article looks at the key differences between artificial grass and a natural grass lawn.
Cost price
When you buy artificial grass for your lawn, you do spend more on it than you would on a natural grass lawn for grass seed and to sow it. However, an artificial grass lawn will last at the very least 10 years and requires very little extra maintenance, this is different with natural grass. After sowing, every year you will have to allow extra time and money for mowing the grass, watering, fertilising and re-sowing. A natural grass lawn has an average life span of around five years. When you take into consideration these costs, artificial grass will work out cheaper in the end.
Solidity
As mentioned above, there is little difference in appearance of artificial grass and a natural lawn. One of the main differences comes when you start using your lawn. With natural grass you have to make sure that it does not die or get dry. On the other hand, artificial grass always stays green, regardless of the season. Artificial grass will also keep its structure after heavy rainfall. It allows water to drain away quickly and dries out quickly so you are not left with a muddy surface. As a result, children are able to go back to playing on the artificial grass quickly without getting dirty clothing or muddy feet.
Odour
Some people like the smell created when mowing natural grass and some people do not. One thing that is for certain is that you will never experience this odour when you have installed artificial grass. Owning artificial grass will also mean that you do not have to deal with those annoying sneezing fits during the grass-cutting season.
Maintenance
Having a natural grass lawn does come with a list of annoying chores, mowing the lawn, removing weeds, re-seeding, watering and fertilising to name but a few of them. These jobs are time and money consuming. Whereas artificial grass requires minimal maintenance. To keep it neat and tidy all you need to do is regularly remove leaves, twigs and seeds. Every now and then you may need to brush the blades of grass, after removing a pool for example, but after a while the blades will straighten themselves out.
