Artificial grass is classified under textile products. This is because during production, the artificial grass yarns are sewn into a tufted cloth. In order to fix the yarns in place in the cloth and to obtain a firm mat, it is finished with a firm under layer, the backing. Small perforation holes are made in the backing which have a very useful function. The holes ensure that your artificial grass is perfectly porous. Without these perforation holes your lawn may become flooded during periods of heavy rainfall.

The holes in the backing of the grass ensure that water can seep into the ground without problems. On average the capacity of the grass is 60L of water per square meter per minute. One advantage is that your artificial grass does not stay wet for long and dries quickly, meaning you can walk bare foot across your lawn once again. The fast drying time of the grass also drastically reduces the chance that fungi and algae will form and this in turn has a positive effect on the maintenance of the grass. A second advantage of this is the infiltration of water will benefit the groundwater level and prevent sewers from overflowing.

Of course, these holes are not only responsible for the proper drainage of your artificial grass, a good foundation is equally as important to prevent future drainage problems. We recommend that you get proper advice on the installation of your artificial grass.
