As installing artificial grass yourself is becoming increasingly popular amongst avid DIYers, there is the importance of pile direction to consider when planning your artificial grass installation in order the ensure the perfect end result.
What is pile direction?
Artificial grass has a directional pile, which means that the blades lean slightly in a single direction. This is important to know because it can make a huge difference in achieving a quality finish when installing an artificial lawn.
Which way is the pile direction on our rolls of artificial grass?
At DOgrass, our rolls come in 2m and 4m widths and up to 30m in length. The pile direction leans down the length of our rolls not across the width. As the Artificial Grass is rolled out, away from you, all the blades of grass will point towards you. So, the Pile Direction will always be perpendicular to the width.
Don’t lay the pile direction in two different ways!
Pile Direction is very important to the appearance of your lawn. If you have a section of your artificial grass lawn that has been laid in a different pile direction, then the join will clearly stand out and look like a patchwork quilt!
Make sure the pile direction is consistent
You want to make sure that the blades of artificial grass are leaning in the same direction if installing 2 or more rolls as this will give your artificial lawn a much more natural finish.
In which direction should the pile lean?
For the best effect, we would recommend having the pile leaning towards the house: our most common viewpoint. The reason being is that this will reflect the light much less and not cause your artificial lawn to be shiny. However, most of our grasses may also be laid side on if this is more economical for you.
